Taking good care of your jewelry will ensure its longevity. Last on, first off should always be your rule: When getting dressed, put your jewelry on last. Likewise, the very first thing you should take off is your jewelry. Chemicals in beauty products can wreak havoc with your jewelry. In fact, chemicals of all kinds are harmful, and the same goes for water, whether it’s from your tap or the ocean. Please don’t shower or exercise while wearing your jewelry and remember to remove your jewelry when cleaning the house or doing dishes. Store your creations away from heat and direct sunlight, preferably separately to avoid scratching. More info on caring for your French Ostrich jewelry.

French Ostrich jewelry is crafted from a variety of mediums including metal, clay, cork, wire, beads, leather, resin, silicone, found objects including vintage jewelry, and more. I purchase all of my components from reputable suppliers. I do not purchase jewelry components from craft or hobby stores, as I’m not convinced of the quality. Not will I purchase from companies whose reputation is questionable. I prefer to pay a little more for the parts and pieces that go into my creations, so I understand the origins and feel comfortable with the quality. (For example, pewter that is cast and plated in the United States, and guaranteed to be nickel and lead free.) In the case of creations made with repurposed vintage jewelry, I cannot verify the materials that were used in the old jewelry.

What’s niobium? You may notice some of my earrings have niobium ear wires. Niobium is actually an element in the periodic chart. It’s a pure metal and therefore hypoallergenic unlike plated metals of alloys.

That’s hard to say. Not all affordable jewelry will turn your skin green or black. Likewise wearing expensive jewelry doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll avoid skin discoloration, which, by the way, is not harmful. It’s simply the result of a chemical reaction between your skin and the metals of your jewelry.
