HOW MUCH DO YOUR EARRINGS WEIGH?

Over the years, if I’ve fallen in love with a pair of earrings in a shop, I’ve purchased them, with little to no thought about their weight. I typically think about the size, as I like big earrings. Case in point, I bought a pair of (very) long earrings as my gift to me on a “big” birthday in Rapallo, Italy, a few years ago. Three large hoops connect to one another and dangle from a French ear wire. I adore these earrings and wear them often. They’re nearly 5” long, and dust the tops of my shoulders.

But … they’re kind of heavy at 7 gm (grams) per earring. Seven grams may not mean much to you; it’s about one-quarter of an ounce, which sounds like nothing … until you’ve been wearing them for hours upon hours. However, I can easily wear these 7 gm earrings for a full evening out with no problem.

A couple of years ago, I designed and created a line of simple hammered aluminum earrings, and these have become my “go-to-earrings” for every day when I want silver. Each earring is barely 1 gm. I’ve owned a pair of classic 14 karat gold hoops for years that weight 3gm each. I can wear them all day.

When you look at the earrings here on the French Ostrich site, you’ll note that I’ve indicated the length and the weight of the earring. If a single earring is 1 gm, I’m calling it “featherweight.” Likewise, if a single earring is 2 gm, it’s “lightweight.”

I hope this helps you to better understand earring weight.
