In 2018, I returned to Portugal after 30+ years, and fell in love with the country all over again. I wasn’t designing and creating jewelry 30+ years ago, but designing and creating with cork was all I could think about on my return trip in 2018. Leather bracelets are super-popular right now, I thought. Why not create jewelry with eco-friendly, renewable, sustainable cork?
Check out this photo of a cork oak tree! Yes … this is where cork comes from: the bark of a tree. It’s harvested every 9-10 years. When the bark of the cork oak is stripped, the tree can better absorb carbon dioxide, so it’s good for the tree and good for the environment!
